Около 200 лет спустя после смерти Ньютона он понял, как устроено это воздействие. Оно происходит не напрямую от объекта к объекту. Массивные тела, например, Солнце, искривляют пространство-время поблизости. Кривизна в одном месте влияет на пространство-время в соседних областях, и это искажение доходит до самой Земли. То есть Земля обращается вокруг Солнца, потому что движется по искривлённому им пространству-времени.
