Успешно проведённый эксперимент, в котором Пациенту были пересажены нейроны, перепрограммированные прямо из его собственных клеток кожи, вырабатывали дофамин и восполняли его недостаток. С пациентом было всё хорошо. Прогресс его болезни замедлился.

Поэтому следующим шагом решили провести клинические испытания такой клеточной терапии. В первой стадии принимали участие 12 человек. В экспериментах работали с эмбриональными плюрипотентными стволовыми клетками, из которых можно получить практически любой тип клеток.

Их превратили в предшественники нейронов, ответственных за выработку дофамина, а затем имплантировали в мозг пациентов. Кому-то чуть больше, кому-то меньше – от одного до почти 3 миллионов клеток. Такие нейроны призваны встраиваться в нейронные сети и улучшать моторные и не моторные функции.

Все нейроны прижились, как показала позитронно-эмиссионная томография. Побочных эффектов на протяжении года не возникало.
