  • One summer I realized, you know what, I think Khan Academy actually has all of this for me.

So I spent the summer looking at it and I had two algebra classes, and I used one for like completely Khan Academy. I want you guys to watch the videos, do all the quizzes, homework, tests, and we're gonna see how it is.

And the other class I taught from the front and did my traditional lesson plans like that. And it was pretty evident by Christmas that the kids that were able to, you know, that I was able to move around and not teach from the front.

Those kids were advancing more. Once I get going, it's like I'm helping this kid, and I'm helping this kid, and you know, kids are waiting, and so then all of a sudden they're starting to help each other, and it's just like this Socratic method, that is just, it's amazing to watch.

And I get goosebumps every time I think about it. And I realize that as a tiny school, and being the only math teacher, it gives me that flexibility.

But I think, you know, with just a little bit of creativity, I think bigger schools could do the same thing, because it's still all in their Khan Academy account. It's documented that they've learned it, that they've mastered it.

Kids that just spent 20 minutes a day, averaged an 80% or above, 80%, it was unbelievable.

Finding specific antiderivatives: rational function | AP Calculus AB | Khan Academy
So we’re told that ( F(2) ) is equal to 12. ( F’ ) prime of ( x ) is equal to ( \frac{24}{x^3} ), and what we want to figure out is what ( F(-1) ) is. Alright, so they give us the derivative in terms of ( x ), so maybe we can take the antiderivative of t…

[Music] I am hunting down the story, but I’m not your standard, uh, correspondent. I’m a wide-eyed, enthusiastic guy that loves the world we live in. I mean, of course, I’ve heard a lot about Congo, but I can’t sort of get away from these, uh, romantic no…
Vector form of the multivariable chain rule
So, in the last couple of videos, I talked about the multi-variable chain rule, which I have written up here. If you haven’t seen those, go take a look. Here, I want to write it out in vector notation, and this helps us generalize it a little bit when the…
What’s Hiding at the Most Solitary Place on Earth? The Deep Sea
Sometimes the world feels… hmm, boring. We’ve visited all the remote islands, conquered the Arctic, and penetrated the deepest jungles. But there is still one place to explore. It’s a wet and deadly desert inhabited by mysterious creatures living in total…
Place value when multiplying and dividing by 10 | Math | 4th grade | Khan Academy
What is 700s * 10? Well, let’s focus first on this times 10 part of our expression. Because multiplying by 10 has some patterns in math that we can use to help us solve. One pattern we can think of when we multiply by 10 is if we take a whole number and…
Estimating decimal subtraction (thousandths) | Grade 5 (TX TEKS) | Khan Academy
In this video, we’re going to get some practice estimating the difference of numbers with decimals in them. So, for example, if I wanted you to estimate what 16.39 minus 5.84 is, what do you think this is approximately equal to? This little squiggly equal…
