Яд может убить четырьмя способами. Нейротоксины поражают нервную систему и мозг, нарушая передачу нейротрансмиттеров — сигнальных молекул от одного нейрона к другому.

Гемотоксины разжижают кровь, из-за чего раны перестают заживляться, начинается внутреннее кровотечение. Такие яды бьют по сложному механизму свертывания крови.

Есть вещества — цитотоксины, они убивают клетки, что приводит к появлению абсцессов, некрозу тканей.

Есть миотоксины, которые поражают мышцы и вызывают паралич.

Хуже всего то, что в змеином яде содержится до 200 компонентов, и в большинстве присутствуют нейротоксины, гемотоксины, цитотоксины, метоксины одновременно. Поэтому спасать от змеиных укусов очень сложно, нужно нейтрализовать не одно вещество, а десяток соединений, которые пытаются вас убить.
