Университете Северной Каролины создали генетически модифицированную бактерию, которая умеет расщеплять ПЭТ - полиэтилентерефталат. Это очень популярный вид пластика. Основой новой бактерии является вибрио на триггетс, быстро размножающаяся бактерия, для которой солёная вода - это её естественная среда.

А вот вторая бактерия - это идеала сакейнсис. От неё взяли её возможность вырабатывать фермент, который расщепляет ПЭТ и позволяет ей питаться продуктами распада. Гены второй бактерии, отвечающие за утилизацию ПЭТ, поместили в первую в виде плазмид - кольцевой ДНК, не включённой в основную.

Однако это не мешает включаться в работу и производить нужные ферменты. Поэтому генно-модифицированные бактерии начали вырабатывать этот фермент в солёной воде. Правда, при температуре в 30 градусов. Это вообще первая бактерия, способная на такое.

В идеале, конечно, заставить генно-модифицированную бактерию поглощать продукты распада. Потому что сейчас она этого не делает, в отличие от донорской бактерии.
