5 Things to Know About Virunga | Explorer

[Music] Veranga is Africa's oldest and largest national park. It's an enormous area, 3,000 square miles of protected space. But perhaps most importantly, it's home to most of the world's critically endangered mountain gorilla. Barunga is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has the same status as Yellowstone National Park or the Great Barrier Reef.

That protection is supposed to mean that it's illegal to explore or exploit any of the natural resources within its boundaries. And yet, that protection doesn't mean very much if companies like Soo or governments can find a way to undermine those principles, get round those laws. Essentially, Veruna is the most dangerous place to be a park ranger.

In the last 20 years, 140 park rangers on patrol have been killed, lost their lives in defense of nature. The charcoal industry is the singly most damaging contributor to habitat loss in the region. In very clever ways, the Barunga Alliance is addressing this directly, supplying alternatives, building infrastructure, electrifying the region through the creation of hydroelectric dams.

If social outreach can have the power to topple governments in our time, then perhaps our efforts can change policies at home and abroad in places as distant as the DRC in the Congo.

What we’re going to do in this video is learn to construct congruent angles. And we’re going to do it with, of course, a pen or a pencil. Here, I’m going to use a ruler as a straight edge, and then I’m going to use a tool known as a compass, which looks a…

Positive and negative intervals of polynomials | Polynomial graphs | Algebra 2 | Khan Academy
Let’s say that we have the polynomial p of x, and when expressed in factored form, it is (x + 2)(2x - 3)(x - 4). What we’re going to do in this video is use our knowledge of the roots of this polynomial to think about intervals where this polynomial would…
BONUS: The Oxford comma | Punctuation | Grammar | Khan Academy
Hey grammarians, hey Paige, hi David! So, we’re going to talk today about the Oxford comma, which is just another word for another name for the serial comma. This is normally when you have a list of things; you punctuate them with a comma after each item…
Negative definite integrals | Integration and accumulation of change | AP Calculus AB | Khan Academy
We’ve already thought about what a definite integral means. If I’m taking the definite integral from ( a ) to ( b ) of ( f(x) \, dx ), I can just view that as the area below my function ( f ). So, if this is my y-axis, this is my x-axis, and ( y ) is equ…

Please, sit down. Welcome, everyone. I must apologize for dragging you all here at such an uncommon hour. But from what I’ve been told, this matter needs to be dealt with urgently. So urgently, in fact, it probably should have been addressed weeks ago. Bu…
