Don't Shoot a Blue Tongue Deer | The Boonies

You can see we're on a deer trail. There's probably one coming down this way. In Western Idaho, Bearclaw is on the hunt for white-tailed deer. He and his good friend Conan have decided to cover more ground.

But over the past 4 hours, there are no signs of potential prey. It is getting so dry up here on the ridges. The dry places really affect the deer, and the places that have just a little moisture, it seems like the deer survive through those spots.

So, uh, this is something we really don't want to see: all this dry ground. It's warm this time of day. They're probably going to find some shade. We'll just go up yonder here and keep looking.

I see some white over there. You stay behind me. Nice buck! Why aren't you taking the shot? He's got a funny look to him. The way he's acting, I don't think he's healthy. I think there's a chance that he might have blue tongue, and I don't want to shoot him.

He just doesn't look right, you know? It's just not worth the risk. I just don't feel comfortable shooting a sick one.
