WWDC 2009 part 2

Now the new iPhone. The new iPhone has a new name. It's called the iPhone 3GS, and the "S" stands for speed because they want to really point out that the new iPhone is a lot faster. Apparently, it's two or three times faster no matter what you're doing, whether it's opening an application or just loading JavaScript. Sorry about that thing with magnets.

Okay, now um, there was a rumor picture. I'm going to just show it right now. Okay, this is what people thought the iPhone was going to look like, right over there. And this was the rumored picture from Mac Rumors who were saying this is probably what it's going to look like. They were wrong. They're very rarely wrong, but they were wrong this time. And um, maybe that's the next iPhone or something they're working on, but it has the same case as the old iPhone.

Now there's going to be a 3-megapixel camera. I think it's 3.2 to be exact, but in the keynote, they said three. And also, record video. Every camera, every lens can record video, but they just, I guess, they don't want you to know about that. But note the new camera, without jailbreaking it, can actually record video and has an auto-focus feature.

Or you can just like, if there's uh, here, I'm just... okay, so here I have Harry Potter. So let's say you wanted to take a picture of this in real life. You can either tap on his head and then focus on that, or you can tap on the pillar behind him and it would focus on that. That's the best I can explain it. If you don't really get it, just Google search auto-focus.

Okay, now there's a digital compass. Like I said, this is going to be great for gaming apps, and it's also going to be great for turn-by-turn directions. Now also, there's a new feature called voice control where you just hold the home button. It's kind of like how, with the new iPod Shuffle, you can talk to it. What you can do it with the iPhone too. So you hold the home button and you can talk to it.

You can say "play" and then say the name of the song. Or if you—this is a really cool new feature—you can also call people. Say "call Joanne," and it'll call Joanne. Or you can say "dial 1 2 3 4 5," and it will call 1 2 3 4 5. There's a really cool feature called "play more songs like this," and it will know the song you're listening to and it will make a Genius playlist with more songs like that song, and it will play more songs like that, which I think is truly amazing.

Okay, now the iPhone is going to be available on June 19th, the new iPhone. And the new iPhone, there's going to be a 16 gigabyte version for 199 bucks and a 32 gigabyte version for 299 dollars. Okay, and they're also going to keep on selling the old iPhone for just ninety-nine dollars. That's still a fantastic iPhone, in my opinion. It's definitely worth it if you don't have the money to buy the new one.

Okay, so um, the new iPhone's coming out Friday, and the 3.0 software—no, not this Friday, by next Friday. And the 3.0 software is coming out next Wednesday. Now a couple people are probably going to be asking me why the 3.0 software comes out two days before the new iPhone.

And I'm just gonna answer that now so I save the questions. The reason why is because when the iPhone 3G came out, MobileMe came out, 2.0 came out, a lot of stuff came out that day, and what happened? AT&T actually crashed. I had to wait like four hours before I could convince um, one on my phone because their whole bandwidth limit crashed. And Apple doesn't really want that to happen again, so they're not putting too much stuff on one day.

Also, 3.0 is going to be very big, a lot of new stuff, and even in the keynotes, a couple stuff didn't work. So at this very close state, so they just want one or two days to fix it up if there's something wrong with it. So if you have any questions, just ask me for a request for a video. Just ask me again. This is Mac Heads 101. Feel free to comment or leave a video response.
