How Not to Get Eaten by a Polar Bear | Expedition Raw

Ber is going to show us how to put the trip wire, which is supposed to protect the camp from polar bears. Nowadays, you see more polar bears on the glacier because of climate change. There is less sea ice, and they use the glaciers to transport themselves from one side of the island to the other. You tend to be a little bit worried when they come up to your tent and want to eat you.

So, we use the flare gun to scare them away. Also, mentally, when you know that you have these threats around the camp, you sleep a lot better because you can't stay awake all night listening for polar bears. You need to sleep.

It’s a fishing line, which I put on an actual ice fishing reel, nice and then I can just... these are just a couple of plastic hooks I built in the boat shop. Back to the first stick, a polar bear walks on it like that, and you won't notice. It will pull out the pin, and he will be scared away.

You will wake up. [Music] You work so well! I'm sure you have plenty of stories, but do you have one crispy story to tell us?

Well, one time, it got entangled into the line, and it pulled up all the flares, so it was like New Year's Eve here.
