Привет, друзья! Я рад приветствовать вас на канале "Капитан Герман". В сегодняшней нашей очень маленькой рубрике я буду отвечать на один вопрос или рассказывать о каком-то одном факте.

Итак, сегодня я вам расскажу о том, что такое и почему на лодках называют левую сторону и правую сторону "порт" и "starboard". Откуда пошла эта традиция?

Порт, как вы понимаете, это часть судна, которая швартуется. "Starboard" — это та часть судна, правый борт, на котором было такое специальное рулевое весло, steering борт. То есть "стир борт" — та часть судна, на которой есть весло для того, чтобы его зарулить боком к пирсу. Поэтому "starboard" — "стир борт".

"Стивен" позже стал "теренс сайт". Это правая часть, на которой за руль и вали, а левая часть — это "порт", которая захотела в порт. Из нее шли все швартовые на берег.
