iPhone on Verizon

Hey guys, this is Mac Heads 101, and today is a big day for Verizon because they have just announced that the iPhone is now going to be on Verizon's network.

Now for four years, the iPhone has been exclusive in the United States to AT&T, and a lot of people, like me for example, have switched to AT&T exclusively so they can get the iPhone. For a while, Verizon has been only having competing products such as Android, Blackberry, and other phones that compete with the iPhone, but they never actually had the iPhone. Now AT&T's contract with Apple has expired, and as of February 10th, Apple will start providing iPhones for Verizon.

So what does this mean? This means that Verizon will have iPhones which are not using SIM cards because Verizon does not use SIM cards. I believe they use a technology called CDMA, which is just a different phone technology.

What is the difference between the Verizon and the AT&T iPhone? Well, the Verizon one is not going to have a SIM card, like I mentioned, and also the Verizon one is going to have a hotspot, a new thing called hotspot, which I'll talk about more in future videos. Also, the Verizon iPhone is not exclusive to Verizon, but they have a multi-year contract, so you shouldn't be seeing that some of the stuff in the Verizon iPhone on AT&T for a couple of years, like CDMA.

Other than that, what else does this mean? This probably means that a lot of people, as soon as their AT&T contracts expire, are going to switch back to Verizon now that Verizon has the iPhone. I know that I might be doing this. Why? Because where I live, not to bash on AT&T, but AT&T has not been doing the best service possible for the iPhone, and I've got many dropped calls.

Now, what does AT&T offer that Verizon does not? Well, if you're browsing the web while making a call on a Verizon phone, you won't be able to browse the web because the data that they send to your phone is either voice (like calling) or just like data. But like on an AT&T plan, they can send both at the same time.

So each contract will have its differences, and it's up to you basically which contract you like more. I'm pretty sure that Verizon is slightly cheaper, and they also have a much larger network. But apparently, according to ads at least, their 3G speed is not quite as fast.

So all in all, this is a big day for Verizon, this is a bad day for AT&T, and this is a fairly good day for Apple because a lot of people who didn't want to have to switch from Verizon are also going to start getting iPhones. A lot of people who didn't get iPhones because they're on Verizon and kept saying that the iPhone sucked just because they couldn't get one, they're probably gonna be like, actually, it's not that bad.

Anyways, that was just my bit. Just comment below whether you think it's better to have an AT&T iPhone or a Verizon iPhone. If you have an AT&T iPhone, are you gonna switch to Verizon? So just comment your thoughts below. Thank you for watching Mac Heads 101, subscribe, and goodbye.
