Колбочки на сетчатке у большинства пауков скакунов восприимчивы только к зелёному или ультрафиолетовому свету. Некоторые же научились видеть красный благодаря тому, что ген, вырабатывающий чувствительный к зелёному асин, случайно удвоился. Новая копия мутировала, и её чувствительность сместилась в сторону более длинных волн.

С нашими глазами когда-то произошло то же самое. Ген Асина, который отвечает за пигмент, чувствительный к зелёному, плива, и у копии развилась чувствительность, смещённая в Красную часть спектра. Мы выяснили, что у пауков скакун эта история повторяется снова и снова.
