Теперь же раскрыт механизм подчинения воле муравьев плоским червям ланцетовидным сосальщикам. Эти черви тоже умеют управлять поведением муравьев, но режим зомби они то выключают, то включают.

Как оказалось, зараженные муравьи утром и вечером оставляют все свои муравьиные дела и забираются на кончики высоких травинок и сидят там. А с наступлением дня или ночи они возвращаются к обычному образу жизни.

Но зачем? Дело в том, что утром и вечером в тех краях устанавливается приятная пониженная температура, прохлада и скот, коровы всякие там выходят пастись.

Сидеть на верхушке травинки муравью нужно для того, чтобы какая-нибудь корова съела этого муравья вместе с червями, и в ее пищеварительном тракте продолжился жизненный цикл сосальщика.

Но если муравья никто не съел, то ему нет смысла сидеть на траве и подвергаться опасности высохнуть.
