a day in the life of a med student VLOG
Hmm, thank you Sakuraco for sponsoring this video! I love you guys! I truly love you guys! I love your snacks! Please send me every single month; I want to eat your snacks! So, nothing special as always—just the same sweater and some purple flare pants. That's it! Today's outfit. I mean, every single day I wear the same thing. But yeah, she's a Mona Lisa! You see, you're walking down... yeah, yeah.
We had a blank lecture, and after that, we had a lunch break. That means we have two hours of break. So, Cena and I decided to go to the city center to eat something and also grab our lab coat for the lab lectures. She's a Mona Lisa; everyone's lining up to see. There must be something better features. You'll find the beauty goes much deeper once you get to meet her. She's a Mona Lisa!
After we had our lunch and chatted a little bit, we came back to the uni and had the rest of the lectures. This is how my class looks like; from my class, you can see the sea. I don't know what this is—this is a boss, Boris? I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm bad at geography. During the lectures, I filmed myself because I want to prove that I'm actually a uni student.
After the uni, I decided to have dinner because it takes ages to go to where I live. So, before getting stuck in traffic, I wanted to eat something. For that, I went to Barmy, and I ordered a dish called poutine, and that was awesome! I saw a building that is written "ocean". Could the cold collapse? Ever since you left, foreign found closer. I keep a knife in my chest just to cut holes off. I don't know.
So, okay, we're looking for an ice cream shop because I really crave ice cream. I gotta find a way out of this [ __ ] position. I stay with a gang and don't stress my no [ __ ]. I took all my pain and I put it in records. They turn up the speaker; I turn into riches when I'm alone. Up has come out of me, so I feel like turning that boy.
So, I just came back home. It's currently 8 PM. School ended at like 4 PM, and then I had dinner in Barmy. Now, it's like 8 PM. The traffic in Istanbul is pretty bad; it takes ages to go somewhere else. Now I want to eat something sweet for dad. I'm gonna have Sakuraco's November snack box. Sakuraco is a monthly subscription of Japanese snack boxes. They send you literally every single month a snack box, and every single month they have a different concept.
And every single month, you get different things, seasonal snacks, and they give you a book which explains the snack and a little bit of Japanese cultural things. I just love them! We collaborated before; like, we have a video with my brother that we taste Japanese snacks together, and in that video, I really enjoyed their snacks because they taste so good. I love Japanese food, I love Japanese snacks, and I just accept them.
Please sponsor me once again, please, because I love your products! And now here we are! As you can see, I actually ate a couple of those before filming it because I couldn't resist. Hashtag foodie! But let's decide what to have. We have different varieties of food, and now I'm gonna introduce you guys while reading these because I don't know how to explain Japanese things in English; it's kind of hard.
They learn a little bit about seasonal things in Japan and some history, you know—all fun things! I want to eat every single one of it. But today, I want to show you something interesting. I had this sweet potato karinto last night at 2:00 AM, so I'm gonna have this one. This is karinto; it looks like this. Can you hear the sound? Sorry for a little ASMR.
Hmm! We have this sweet potato... okay, so we decided to share this with my mom. Let's have this. Hmm, I think this can go really well with the green tea. I'm gonna save this for my mom! They don't only send snacks; they also send teas as well, which I'm having right now. As you can see, I'm currently having my green tea.
The thing that I like about Saku is that not only do they taste good, but they send you like 100 Japanese artisanal snacks. They send worldwide, so whatever country you are living in, they probably send it. I'll put a link down below so that you can check if they're sending to your country. They're probably sending to your country.
So, since we have my green tea—oh, I love it! Let's have this. Hmm! I love the elegant sweetness of Japanese snacks; when you compare with other countries, probably Japanese snacks have more subtle sweetness to them, and I am a big fan of that! Let's dip into my tea. This literally sent me back to Japan.
So, this is our chestnut baumkuchen! I really love the sweet potato taste and the chestnut flavor. During the autumn in Japan, all of the snacks are flavored either sweet potato or chestnut, and I am—what is the word?—I am here for it! I'm all in! I don't know. Ah! It goes really well with the tea! I love that they send you a tea, and also they send you this one.
We always like to have miso soup in our own, and like, you eat them during breakfast. I love miso soup! And let's talk about how Sakuraco boxes work. So, if you subscribe during October, then you'll get the November box next month. You can check whatever box you're gonna get on their website. This is a chestnut, mind you.
So, while having this, let me talk a little bit about my med school experiences. It's been going pretty tough for me because I couldn't find an apartment. I actually found an apartment today, and I'm moving out probably around next week or so. Then I'm trying to get used to my school, but during the lectures, it's kind of really boring because it's not interactive at all. You just sit there and listen to the professor reading the slides.
I don't know if it's like that in your med school, but in my med school, the professors don't really talk that much; they only read the slides that they prepared. Hmm. Oh, they don't really explain things, you know? They just read the slides, and it makes the lectures really boring. I don't know if it's like that in every single med school, but in my med school, it's like that.
I'm not complaining! I'm not complaining! All right, we're just like telling the truth. Don't get offended! There are people getting offended for every single thing these days; it's kind of hard. Anyway, getting used to the environment is also hard for me. I found friends; I have friends now, so I don't have a problem in terms of relationships.
But it's hard; we go through a lot of material in a day, and I have an exam two weeks later—actually, not two weeks; probably in like 10 days. I haven't really studied, and I really, really need to cram for this exam! I know cramming is not a good thing; I should probably have studied every single day a little bit and done active recalling, spaced repetition, and all that stuff. But I was trying to get used to my uni.
And this is like the first exam ever that we're gonna have, so I think it's totally okay for the first exam! I'll probably cannot really get a very high score, but from the second, third, and fourth exams, I will try my best to get the highest score. I really changed my mindset. In my mind, I used to be like I gotta get the best result, and I gotta do best, but now I'm having fun. I'm making friends, and I'm getting used to the score.
It was just like an adaptation phase, and I think it's totally normal, like you're starting a whole new journey in your career, and it takes time to adapt. So, in my mind, I'm currently in Japan, walking down the Tokyo streets, going to Harajuku with Ahara. Especially, I love Uraharu, and I'm shopping there right now. I miss Japan so much! Japan is such a beautiful country!
Of course, it has its own problems, like for sure! Why are you expecting Japan to be perfect? Of course, it has problems, but it doesn't change— in fact, the country is beautiful! The culture is beautiful, people are nice, the food is good! I love Japan! Oh, I love Japan! I'm proud that I'm Japanese as well as I'm Turkish. When I say that I love Japan, people get offended, like, "Why?" Both of them are my countries; I don't understand it!
Let me show the other snacks that we have. This is an Amanat citrus jelly made with Amanat's orange citrus from Kumamoto Prefecture. The perfect balance of sweet and tart—this dessert pairs well with light green tea. Then we have this bad boy: this is a brown sugar donut made with Okinawa brown sugar. These donuts are lightly fried to keep the center soft and moist. Sugar from Okinawa is high in minerals with gentle sweetness that is not overwhelming.
I think this is like the whole concept that we have in Japanese snacks; they are not overwhelmingly sweet. They have a very subtle and elegant sweetness to them; you don't feel like you're having a sugar overdose. You know, I don't know which one you prefer, but I like to have my sweet in a subtle sweetness, you know? So that my insulin is not spiking.
We also have this honey castella! So, Castella cake was introduced to Japan by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Sugar was very expensive, so it was a luxury for many years. This handmade version is sweetened with honey. I love custard! My brother loves custard—he eats custard with milk! He puts it into milk, melts it, and then he has it.
I like to eat this in a normal way, so with my fingers and have the milk separately. But he likes to put it in milk. He likes to put every single thing in milk—like, he literally puts Oreos, every single thing in milk, and then it melts down and just becomes like a weird thing. Then he mixes them and has it with a spoon. I—I don't get it. I don't get him. He's different.
We also have this chestnut jelly. As I said, we like to have a lot of chestnuts during the autumn season. It just reminds me of how awesome it is! Also, if you have every chance to visit Japan during the autumn time, I totally recommend it! I should probably stop eating sweets because I need to study, and I don't want to get sleepy right now. If you want to experience a Japanese snack experience and feel Japan in your tongue, try out Sakuraco boxes!
Thank you, Sakuraco, for sponsoring this video! I love you guys! I truly love you guys! I love your snacks! Please send me every single month; I want to eat your snacks! I chilled for a while on my bed, I changed my clothes, and now I want to show you guys something exciting. I got mine! What is this? What is the name of this? I don't know why! Look at me!
"Dr. Rudy! Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Dr. D—ooh, my God, this looks so cool!" I'm gonna show this to my family because this looks so cool! So, before going to bed, I'm going to read some slides, but before that, I'm gonna give some love to my stray cat because she's now wanting a hug. Another stray cat of mine—hello! They always sit on my lap. Pom pom pom pom!
They literally tried to open the package! But now, okay, so I'll grab some water and then I'm going to remove my makeup and do my skincare and all that stuff. Before going to bed, I'm gonna read a couple of slides, and yeah, I'm gonna prepare myself for tomorrow. We're just chilling. Yeah, I'm tired, as you can probably tell!
Yeah, okay, so as you can see, I removed my makeup and did my skincare, and now I'm gonna do a little bit of productive stuff. I'm gonna read a little bit of slides, and also I'm gonna plan what I have to do because I have a bunch of things to do, and also I have a bunch of emails to respond to. And yeah, you know, I'm gonna do all of those. Let's get some work done.
So yeah, that was it! Today's vlog! I hope you guys enjoyed this video! Don't forget to check out Sakuraco; all of the links will be down in the description below. Thank you, Sakuraco, for sponsoring this video! Let me see you in my next video!
