The Danger and Excitement of Underwater Cave Diving | Short Film Showcase

We come here every winter, bringing tons of dive stuff, going into the mountains. During this expedition, Darrell, we get to explore this cave system that we have found here. This is the longest underwater cave in Sweden, and we know there's going to be still lots to explore for us for years to come.

I'm usually very nervous before a dive because I'm quite new when it comes to cave diving. So, I need to be in control and make sure everything is in place. It's hard to explain to friends and family who have a certain point of view of things, but you can't live on what everybody else thinks. You need to listen to yourself really. For me, I live for diving, and I dive hundreds of times every year.

There's a special feeling when you get to go somewhere where no one has ever been. You can be absolutely sure you are the first person to see this very room in the cave. It's just the best feeling ever, just being below the surface really, and to cut off the whole stress and environment in the city. That is my kind of freedom.

You focus on a lot of things at once. You focus on yourselves, all the gear you're carrying: Is it working? Can I shake it one more time? From there, the first fin stroke you take is in two totally unexplored waters. You never really know what you're gonna find just around the corner. Everything has to be done with the right type of mind here, otherwise, it's not working.

If I get scared, I can open it side up. I could scar today; I don't want to dive tomorrow, so there is no pressure. Everyone tells everything about the dives, about the feelings. My best friend died two years ago in the cave in France, so I have experience of how it is like. You know what can happen if you're not thinking right.

Not talking with people about that, I think we're like a family. If you're cold, we'll keep each other warm, and we'll help each other with the diving. I think it's mainly an acceptance that everybody is different and has different levels of what they do, the skills they have. It wouldn't work if we didn't do it together.

I want to explore; I want to see the stuff no one else has seen. Before, I want to explore the cave systems less than anyone has ever been before. It's a different world actually. I just want to go further in, farther. It's always that what drives us to go and see what's behind an explorer. I know there is something addictive about it.
