Что язык либо полностью определяет мышление, либо влияет на него в значительной степени. Но Нашлись учёные, которые решили это опровергнуть. Чтобы уточнить роль языка, исследователи анализировали данные и исследования по неврологии за последние 20 лет.

Логика подсказывает, что если язык определяет мышление, то ряд форм мышления без него просто невозможны. Однако есть контрпримеры. Например, люди с афазией - это расстройство или отсутствие речи с её восприятием. Такие люди вполне могут продолжать думать и делать выводы, несмотря на потерю языковых навыков.

Функциональная магнитно-резонансная томография показывает, что области мозга, отвечающие за язык, не участвуют в большинстве форм мышления. Получается, что мозг может работать без языковой поддержки. Справедливо и обратное: наличие нормальной речи совершенно не гарантирует отсутствие бед с мышлением.
