Cheap FPV Goggles for the NEO - DJI N3

Check out these goggles! They are the DJI N3, and they are a cheaper version of DJI's FPV goggles. So that you could fly with the DJI Neo or the DJI Avada 2 and not have to spend $500 for a set of goggles. These are priced at $229.

In this video, what I want to do is show you what you get with these goggles and what it's like to fly using these when you want to shoot FPV style footage with your drone. So let's start by just talking about the design of these goggles. They are a little bit bigger than, say, the DJI Goggle 3, and there are not as many features on the goggles themselves.

It's got the same battery design where the battery sits on the back of your head to balance out the goggles, so they're not super heavy. What you'll see is that there is a cable that runs from the battery to the front where the screens are. Now on top, you have two antennas that stick up; you flip these up to be able to get a better signal.

Then you have a few buttons. So, you have your power button, which you press once and hold to turn it on. You have a back button, and you have your joystick, which allows you to select different things when you're in the goggle and flying. You have a USB-C, which allows you to connect to your computer or phone, or it allows you to charge these goggles.

Then, you have a micro SD card slot, so if you want to film what you're seeing in the goggles, you could record using the micro SD card. Now, there's no way to adjust the view. On other versions of DJI's goggles, you could adjust based on your eyesight.

On these ones, it's just one setting, so you have no way to adjust both eyes. Instead, it's a different design on the inside, so you have these two glass eye holes to where you look in, and then there's a screen further back in the distance. You could see that these goggles are a little bit larger, so the screen sits a little bit further away. When you're looking in the screen, it has more of a curve to it than you see on the other sets of DJI goggles that I've worked with.

Now, you have a lens protector that you can keep inside to keep the glass clean, so that you don't get any scratches or anything, but it's a fairly simple design. Now on the inside, you'll also see two little mesh areas, and when you're actually using these goggles, you can defog, and it will kick on a little fan that helps defog when it's on your face.

Around your face, to block out the light, it has a cushion, and this cushion actually feels really good on the face. With the adjustment on the back of the battery, you can make this nice and snug, and it blocks out all the light around what you're seeing.

Now, let's take off the DJI Neo and fly around a bit. Let's talk about some of the other features that you get on the N3 goggles. If you've worked with any of the other versions, it's pretty much the same. You put on the goggles, and you could use your motion controller.

With the little line on the screen and the dot, you could select any of your menus from the top, this side, or the bottom. You could also use the joystick on the actual goggles themselves. There is a back button on the goggles themselves, so super simple operation.

Let's get this drone into the sky! So, double press the orange button. Motors are going to start. Press up on the motion controller; it's going to fly into the sky. I can start pulling the trigger, and I can start flying. Now you're going to see both what I'm seeing in the goggles.

So, I'm going to fly a little bit over here; you could see as I go around this tree how it looks, and you also get to see what the drone is seeing. Whoop! Now, the recording is going to automatically stop as soon as you hit something. I mean, the good thing about flying with the DJI Neo, even the Avada 2, is you do have some leniency in bouncing off things because the propellers are protected.

Now, the recording stops; it would be kind of fun to see the full recording of the crash. But I understand that when you crash, it cuts the recording so you don’t just have a bunch of recordings of empty footage of the drone sitting on the ground while you go pick it up and dust off and all that.

Now even though I'm in this bright California sun right now, there is no light entering these goggles. So when you get it positioned right, you can completely seal out the light that's coming in. Out here, it's like crazy bright, but it looks great in the goggles.

The weight is approximately 539 grams, and that's including the battery and the headband. Now, the screen size is a 3.5-inch screen, and the resolution is HD at 60 frames per second. Your field of view when you're looking through the goggles is 54 degrees.

Now, in terms of transmission, you have O4 transmission, so you get a very clean signal when you're flying around. In terms of latency, you're getting about a 31-millisecond latency with the Avada 2 and about a 58-millisecond latency with the DJI Neo. I haven't really noticed any issues when flying.

Now in terms of video bit rate, you get a 60 megabits per second with the Avada 2 and 50 megabits per second with the Neo. Now, in terms of battery life, you get 2.7 hours of battery with the goggles, so you'll be able to do a series of flights with this one battery before you have to plug it in to charge it back up.

Now, in terms of setup, they're very easy to set up. It's just like any other DJI products; you turn them on, you hook into your phone, activate them, and there's a whole beginner's guide on how to fly FPV as you go through the whole process. But if you're someone who's flown FPV, you could skip all that and just put them on and start flying as soon as they're activated.

Now, with this set of goggles, you do have head tracking, so you can turn this on when you're flying and be able to use your head to look where the drone is flying. Now, you also have this goggle defog; you turn this on, and it's going to defog the goggles and turn on these little fans.

So here, this is with the head tracking turned on. You can see wherever I point the goggles; wherever I point my head, it's tracking what the drone sees. I think one of the biggest things with a piece of gear is whether it works well for its intended purpose.

It's not about all the bells and whistles and all the flashy things that come with it; it's whether it works. So with the DJI N3 goggles, the experience inside the goggles is similar to the experience flying with the more expensive version, and that's the most important part.

So, a cheaper set of goggles to work with your DJI Neo, or if you're someone who's flying with the Avada 2, and you get a good flying experience. I'll include a link down below in the description if you want to see all the details about these goggles, if you want to pick up a set for yourself.

Next, I highly suggest you check out this video right here, especially if you're a DJI Neo flyer, because it's a complete beginner's guide to the DJI Neo and everything on how to fly it. If you want to make adventure-style videos, then make sure you check out this playlist right here, which is all about how to make adventure videos here on YouTube.

I'll see you over there!
