С давних времён известно, что определённые виды птиц обладают удивительной способностью находить путь домой. Поэтому люди отправляли друг другу письма с голубями. Их безошибочное чувство направления отчасти обусловлено способностью чувствовать магнитное поле Земли.

Но на это способны и другие существа: некоторые бактерии, пчёлы, лосось, черепахи, крысы, собаки, киты, кошки. У них у всех есть магнитный компас. Собаки, справляя нужду, обычно стараются повернуться в направлении север-юг и даже натаскивают на поиск магнитных брусков.

Если предложить им три контейнера, они с большей вероятностью выберут тот, в котором магнит. Что интересно, при схожих условиях они чаще находят магнит, чем угощение. С учётом этих примеров логично предположить, что человек тоже способен улавливать магнитные поля.

Если вам интересно, каким образом это возможно физически, то в нашем мозге были найдены кристаллы магнетита, схожие с тем, что есть у магниточувствительных бактерий.
