В условиях невесомости, как например на МКС, мышцы слабеют и уменьшаются. Это называется атрофией. Известно, что космонавты теряют до 20% мышечной массы всего за 5-11 дней.

Нужно как-то держать себя в форме. Поднимать веса не имеет смысла, поэтому приходится использовать сопротивление растяжению. На космической станции космонавты прицепляют себя к беговой дорожке и занимаются по два с половиной часа каждый день. И всё равно непривычно.

Малая нагрузка на тело снижает прочность костей. Космонавты теряют от одного до двух процентов костной массы в месяц, в основном в нижних конечностях. Это в 10 раз быстрее, чем при развитии остеопороза у пожилых людей на земле.
