Digging the Scrap Heap | Port Protection

Most of the people who live in the bush are fiercely independent, and I don't suppose when I'm any different. Today I'm scrounging. Well, I'm just trying to procure enough pieces of old steel now I can get together, and I can throw together a prototype of a vertical axis wind turbine. I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I think I can make it work the first time out of the bucket. I'll keep my batteries happy and my petroleum bill low.

In Port Protection, resources are precious. Nothing is thrown out; everything has multiple uses. For every source, full Sam Carlson junk and scrap piles are key to his independence and survival. The first thing I'm gonna do to build this vertical axis wind turbine is I'm gonna go collect all the stuff I need, and it's scattered. Essentially taking scrap and trying to turn it into energy.

Like, I can use a little bit of this. I can cut this off. This piece has been here for close to 20 years if I remember right. Right now, we've got that base. I'm gonna be going after the mast next, and I have a lead to old steel for the spokes. Logic dictates if you have the base, you need the mast.

Mr. Mason, I'm gonna go rummage through your scrap pile. Most likely scrapping, and basically it's junk, but I can use this for some reinforcement. I've got to make these blades not twist—simple, strong. Hopefully, it'll work.
