The Cold Sets In | No Man Left Behind

This day is tattooed on my brain. I've been to some of the coldest places on Earth and never experienced cold like it.

On this particular day, we came across a tank boom, which was an absolute godsend. It's earth that's been piled up on three sides, and it's for a tank to reverse into. As first light started to calm, we could see a building, and it had an antenna coming from it. There were at least two soldiers around it.

We're tracked; we can't move. Somebody's gonna have to keep an eye on these guys. I obviously fell asleep. The next moment, I came to with pins and needles on my face. Cold has a certain type of pain; it's terrifying.

Crazy, I'm going, "Dude, no, you're not. We're all cold, and you're in trouble now." It wasn't the Iraqis that were going to kill us; it was the weather.

Night fell, and that's when it hit me, and it hit me like a sledgehammer. Now, in hindsight, I didn't realize how bad everybody was. What do you really have with hypothermia? You think you're acting normally, and actually, you're making huge mistakes and not thinking straight.

Coupled reactions | Applications of thermodynamics | AP Chemistry | Khan Academy
Coupled reactions use a thermodynamically favorable reaction to drive a thermodynamically unfavorable reaction. For example, let’s look at a hypothetical reaction where reactants A and B combine to form products C and I. The standard change in free energy…
How to Cure Aging – During Your Lifetime?
Health is the most valuable thing we have in life, but we tend to forget that until we lose it. We’re living longer than ever before, which is great, but an unforeseen consequence of this is that we also spend a larger and larger portion of our lives bein…
Why the gradient is the direction of steepest ascent
So far, when I’ve talked about the gradient of a function, and you know, let’s think about this as a multivariable function with just two inputs. Those are the easiest to think about, uh, so maybe it’s something like x² + y². A very friendly function. Wh…
SpaceX-PLOSIONS: Why It Matters - Smarter Every Day 138
Hey, it’s me Destin. Welcome back to Smarter Every Day. Depending on where you get your media, you’re probably aware that we just failed for the third time in eight months to get cargo vehicles up to the International Space Station, which means that cargo…
Molecular, complete ionic, and net ionic equations | AP Chemistry | Khan Academy
What we have here is a molecular equation describing the reaction of some sodium chloride dissolved in water plus some silver nitrate, also dissolved in the water. They’re going to react to form sodium nitrate, still dissolved in water, plus solid silver …
Slope and y intercept from equation
What I’d like to do in this video is a few more examples recognizing the slope and y-intercept given an equation. So let’s start with something that we might already recognize: let’s say we have something of the form (y = 5x + 3). What is the slope and …
