Fire Aboard the Hot Tuna | Wicked Tuna
[Music] Oh boy, all right. Well, one someone will get one here. Somebody will win the lottery here today. Whoa! Something's on fire! Something's on fire! What? Something's on fire! Where? I don't know; I smell it. I smell electrical burn.
I smell it too. Where's it coming from? I don't know; it's over here. Look, see where it's rising right there? Look! Shut the generator up; you'll lose the power! I think it's the panel. Yeah, I feel warmth. It's in here. Got to be behind it. I saw smoke rising from this panel.
I've known boats with extremely knowledgeable captains have fires on board and go down in a matter of minutes. Michael, get screwdrivers! Square head! Fine; give me square head. We got to find it! It's imperative that we locate the source of this fire.
In that bag, there's a whole bunch of them. This is pretty pathetic that we can't find a square head. I'll rip the off! I got it! Still coming up there. Try that. This is warm. I'm just going to open this now and see if there's some kind of wire burning inside here.
There it is right there! What is it? Holy! It's a wire over here! Right there, look! Holy man! If I didn't smell, we would have been on fire. I'll let you look at it here. It's a hell of a way to wake up, man; I'll tell you what.
Oh wait a minute! What? It's the feed! That's the hot in, right? The block melted. Why? It didn't melt; it's that little Junction thing there! The little box melted! Yeah, the junction box, which connects the power coming out of the generator to the panel, started to melt because of a loose connection.
If I hadn't smelled it and spotted it when I did, it eventually would have lit on fire and left us out here, 150 miles from shore with no power. Just over time, it's fatigue! What do we do? I got wi... We got to have a generator! I don't believe this!
Oh man, we got to go in! We got too many variables. Let's go! Pull the anchor! Not really a master electrician; there's a lot going on over there. So we're going to have to go in. We have to figure out what caused it and make sure that we diagnose it properly and it doesn't happen again.
You know, we've got a lot of fishing to do, and that could be a matter of life and death. Another minute or two, and that could have got really, really bad! So, I think we definitely just dodged a major bullet.
All right, let me just get the motor going. What's he doing? We're out of here! What happened? We almost went on fire! What? How? When! I was talking to you; I smelt something! I saw smoke coming up behind me from the panel!
The electrical wire was melting inside the panel. Not good, man; it would have been bad! Go get it fixed! All right man, good luck! That's scary, man! You get stuck in a fire in a boat; there's no place to go.
It sucks that we're coming home without fish, but you know what? We're all still here; we're all alive! It could have been a lot worse!
