Сейчас учёные полагают, что зевания защищает мозг от перегрева. Как и у компьютера, у мозга есть определённая температура, при которой он лучше всего работает. Когда мы зеваем, учащается сердцебиение, улучшается приток крови, усиливается работа лицевых мышц, а мозг охлаждается.

Более того, когда мы зеваем, холодный воздух может понизить температуру крови в голове. А почему наш мозг вообще нагревается? Температура мозга может повыситься, например, из-за утомления или недосыпа.

В подобных состояниях мы чаще зеваем. В одном эксперименте участники с тёплой грелкой на голове в виде зевающих людей тоже зевали в сорока одном проценте случаев, а участники с прохладной — в девяти. Холодная голова зевает меньше.
