16 Shonen Anime Recommendations from a Japanese Otaku Girl🇯🇵
Hi guys, it's me, Judy. Today I'm back with another video which was highly, highly, highly, highly, highly requested from you guys, which is my favorite animes and my recommendations. Basically, [Music].
So before even talking about my recommendations, just let me talk about my taste of anime. I've been watching anime since my birth. I'm not kidding at all! Like, I've watched more than 100 animes. I'm a big anime fan, and I love reading mangas and watching animes. The reason why I'm being that productive is literally to watch anime without any guilt.
The first anime is my all-time, all-time favorite anime. I just love this anime, and it's called Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Giorno. If you don't like Jojo, don't talk to me! Don't even try to talk to me.
So, let me explain what type of anime Jojo is. The whole story is about the Joestar family. The very unique thing, and the thing that I love the most about Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, is that every single time the main character changes, they're kind of related, or they're from the Joestar family.
So, the first main character is, for example, Jonathan Joestar, and then comes his grandson, who is Joseph Joestar, and then his grandson, Kujo Jotaro. It kind of continues like that. The thing that they have in common is that their nickname is Jojo. So, Jonathan Joestar: Jojo. Joseph Joestar: Jojo. And Kujo Jotaro: Jojo. It's kind of like continuous like that because every single time the main character changes, it is so fun to watch!
Also, the art style changes every single time. So, when you look at the art style of Part 3 and Part 5, they're completely different. It is so different from the other animes. If you haven't heard of like the Jojo poses, every single time a character does something iconic, they kind of do like weird poses.
Part One and Part Two are pretty boring. Some people get pretty offended when people skip Part One and Part Two and call, like, tell people as part skippers. But even Araki-sensei says that he doesn't feel like it's like his artwork; the other parts he just like put his creativity into. So, he even says that thing.
Why aren't you getting offended? If you want to start watching Jojo, I would recommend you to just maybe watch a couple of episodes of Part One and Part Two and decide if you want to watch those parts. If you get bored of these, people are going to get offended about that! But you can skip Part One and Part Two and just start Part Three.
But before starting Part Three, I would recommend you to read the summary of Part One and Part Two so that you can understand Part 3 better, because you have to know Parts 1 and 2 in order to understand the future parts. So, you know, they are kind of boring, but I think it's worth it to understand Jojo, so I would recommend that. But you know, if you get bored so much, skip Part 1 and Part 2 and read the summaries.
After fangirling over Jojo, let's move on to the next anime, which is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by three enormous walls that protect from the gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as titans. The story follows who involves exterminating titans after a titan brings out the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother. Like, the story is pretty serious, but the author, I think, is a genius, and the story is so well-produced. Even like the music in the anime and every single thing about Attack on Titan is like very...
Let's move on to the next. So my third anime recommendation is Death Note. The story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who discovers a mystery notebook: the Death Note. The Death Note is a super magical kind of like notebook which gives the user supernatural ability. So when you write somebody's name onto that notebook, you can kill that person.
Light Yagami kind of wants to create a utopian crime-free society, and he decides to be the god of his new society. A police detective called L tries to find him and arrest him. Both of these two characters are very smart. The strategies they use against each other are so smart. So if you like these types of animes, I would recommend you to watch Death Note.
My fourth anime recommendation is Psychic: Sōno Sainan. If you love comedy-type animes, I think you would love this. The story is going around the psyche who has supernatural powers like teleportation and psychokinesis. He doesn't have only one but has many of them. The only thing that he wants to do is to live a silent and normal high school life. But of course, it's not really possible with these supernatural powers, and he tries to hide those.
His classmates are very unique, and every character is pretty funny. So if you love funny comedy animes, I would recommend watching Psychic: Sōno Sainan.
My fifth anime recommendation is Boku no Hero Academia: My Hero Academia. Yes, so the story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers in a world where they have become commonplace. Because superpowers become commonplace, of course, there are people who are going to use them in a bad way, as like for crime. There are superheroes that are protecting the citizens, but Midoriya is a boy born without any quirks. Still, he wants to become a superhero and admires so much about his favorite superhero called All Might.
He meets with All Might, and my kind of story starts. The thing that I love about the anime is that I love kind of like the type of animes where everybody has different superpowers. For example, in Jojo, they have stans, and in My Hero Academia, they have different quirks. My favorite, favorite, favorite character in My Hero Academia is Bakugo Katsuki. I'm just in love with him! I mean, I love Bucciarati more, but Bakugo Katsuki is another favorite character. I also love Todoroki Shoto.
So the next anime is... it tells the story of an amnesiac, reptilian-headed Kaiman. There are two different worlds: the wizard world and the human world. Someone, a wizard, changed his head to a reptile. He doesn't remember anything about that, and he kind of tries to get back his head. Inside his head, there is someone living, and every single time he sees a wizard, he bites the wizards and asks, "Are you the person? Are you the wizard that changed my head to a reptile?" You might think, "Oh, this is a very weird story," but it is in a very unique anime.
I really love different types of animes, so the next one is Beastars. The story itself is about the animal world, and there are carnivores and herbivores, and they're trying to live together. There is a high school called Cherryton Academy where herbivores and carnivores study together. In that academy, the main character called Legoshi is a carnivore, and his herbivore friend got killed by someone in the academy. He tries to find who killed his friend.
Legoshi is obviously a carnivore because he is a wolf. He also changes the world, and even though from the outside it seems like herbivores and carnivores are having a peaceful life, the truth is not like that. Legoshi is trying to create a peaceful society between carnivores and herbivores, and the whole story goes around like this. It's kind of really fun to see from the animals' perspectives, like from the carnivores and herbivores. Both of them have their points. The difficulty between their society really makes you think about the world. I love the anime; you can watch it on Netflix.
So the next one is Hunter x Hunter. The main character, called Gon Freecss, is trying to discover his father who left him at a very young age. His father is actually a world-renowned hunter—a licensed professional who specializes in fantastical pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, or trying to find criminals. But in order to become a hunter, there is an exam that you have to pass, and after passing the exam, you get the hunter license.
After getting a license, you can become a hunter. He decides to take the exam, and he tries to get the license. He meets a lot of people during that exam, and every single person who is trying to get the license has different backgrounds. He kind of tries to find his father. I'm really not trying to give any spoilers, so it's really hard for me to explain the anime without giving a spoiler and make it sound interesting. I don't know. And yeah, that's it, but it's a very good anime, and my favorite character is Hisoka. I just love him so much.
So the next one is Boku dake ga Inai Machi. The story follows Satoru Fujinuma, who possesses an ability called Revival, that sends him back to the moment before life-threatening accidents, enabling him to prevent it from happening again. His mother got killed by someone else, and his revival sends him back to 18 years. He has to solve the problem in order to save his mother.
Eighteen years ago, there was a kidnapping incident that happened, and he also has to solve that problem in order to save his mother. He kind of starts from his childhood and tries to address every single problem that leads to his mother's death. My brother doesn't really love this anime because it's really easy to find a criminal. But I think it's still fun to watch even though you really notice the criminal in a couple of episodes. But anyway, it's just a very fun anime. I would recommend it if you haven't watched it already.
And then the next one is Gokudouzu. In English, it's called Back Street Girls. The story is about three men who belong to a yakuza group, and they kind of did a mistake. If you know about the Japanese yakuzas, then you know that every single time they do a mistake, they cut their fingers. They made a very big mistake, and their boss decided to send them to Thailand to change their gender by surgery. Their boss forces them to become an idol group. Ex-family yakuza members become an idol group, and they succeed in that business. The whole story goes around them being actually men and members of the yakuza but from the outside, they are an idol group.
It's a comedy-type anime, and I really love that anime. The next one is Tower of God. This one is actually a Korean manga turned into an anime. There is a very mysterious tower. The whole story is about this tower, the Tower of God. When you climb the tower and reach the top level, you can become the god and know everything about this universe. You can do whatever you want.
But in order to climb this tower, there are a lot of exams that you have to pass. The main character, who is living outside of the tower, falls in love with a girl called Rachel. Rachel decides to leave the main character and climb the tower. The main character follows the girl. The tower is not really open for people who are coming from outside, but somehow, Bam opens the door of the tower and takes the exam in order to meet Rachel.
I don't really love the drawing style of Tower of God; it's kind of a bit childish. But I really love every single voice actor of the anime, so it makes the anime much better. So I would recommend watching Tower of God.
One of them is Jujutsu Kaisen. I think Jujutsu Kaisen is fine, but it's not something really special that I really love. I just think that it's fun to watch, and I love the anime, but I don't love it as much as I love Jojo or Shingeki no Kyojin.
So, Itadori, the main character, accidentally summons grotesque creatures by messing with a cursed object. He kind of aids the cursed object, and he becomes kind of partially cursed. He has to be in control of this like crazy high school in order to be controlled because a part of himself becomes a super powerful curse creation called Yome. He enters the high school and becomes a Jujutsushi and fights with the curses, and the whole story is around that.
So if you like kind of like more not so serious anime, then I would recommend Jujutsu Kaisen. And then the last one is Kakegurui. It's a gambling anime. There is an elite Japanese high school that hosts the children of Japan's most wealthy and influential people. The student's hierarchy in this high school is not determined by academic performance but rather by gambling. Students are ranked according to their gambling scores, and there is a hierarchy.
The main character, Jabami Yumeko, is the new girl in the school. She enters the school and starts gambling and kind of starts to change the hierarchy in the school. But the thing that I don't like about Kakegurui is that they don't give any hints when they're gambling, so you can guess what they're actually doing. I think it would be much better if they gave a little bit of clues here and there so that we can figure out what's going on.
But Kakegurui is like the style of art, the voice actors, and the whole theme is very creative. So if you like those types of new animes, I would recommend you to watch that.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed this video. Bye!
