What feels like play to you, but looks like work to others?

I think for everybody there is something that they do that other people think is work but is effortless for them. Their friends will basically say to them, "Oh, I can't believe you can just do that without hating it." Everyone's got something like that, and whatever that thing is, you can build a career out of that.

That's the beauty of being such a large planet, because if you're that good at it, you probably love it. And you're going to be in; you're going to be better than anybody else because you'll be doing it for fun when they're doing it for work. Eventually, they'll tire out when the results aren't there, and they'll give up.

A lot of the results now, the world is a very efficient place, right? There are lots of podcasters, there's lots of runners, there's lots of TV shows, there are lots of writers. The world is very efficient, so the people who succeed are the ones who are irrationally passionate about something. They're not doing it for the money, but you just need to be patient.

This is the problem: it takes 10 years to build a career in anything. It takes 10 years minimum to raise a child. It takes 10 years minimum to build a business. It takes 10 years to build a career.

Many a culture is home to a mythical beast, an elusive creature that thrives in the imagination, if not verifiable reality. The Scots have Nessie monstrously hiding in its Highland Loch. Nepal has the abominably unverified Yeti. Even New Jersey has its ow…

Now let’s talk about some of the words you’re likely to hear if you’re dealing with insurance. So the first one is a premium, or an insurance premium, and that’s really just what you’re paying in order to get the insurance. So if you pay, let’s say, 200 …

A clever way to estimate enormous numbers - Michael Mitchell
Whether you like it or not, we use numbers every day. Some numbers, such as the speed of sound, are small and easy to work with. Other numbers, such as the speed of light, are much larger and cumbersome to work with. We can use scientific notation to expr…
