Introducing a Yearlong Celebration of National Parks | National Geographic

[Music] National parks are part of our DNA. It's who we are at National Geographic. For more than 100 years, National Geographic has been committed to national parks.

In 1916, we devoted an entire issue of National Geographic magazine to parks. We called it "Land of the Best," and we gave that to every member of Congress with intent—an intent to establish a government agency to manage those parks sensibly and smartly for all of us.

100 years later, it's the anniversary of the National Park Service, and that gives us an opportunity to focus on what parks mean to all of us and also where we're going to take parks. We've got work to do, and a lot of that work will be controversial.

A lot of issues humanity faces have an interplay with parks. National Geographic's initiative and parks across all media platforms is the biggest editorial initiative in our 100-plus year history.

We ask you to come with us. Come on a journey. Let's participate and learn together as a community. This is the time to celebrate parks, and this is the time to talk about them today and their [Music] future.
