A Free Alternative to Microsoft Office for PC + Mac

Mids 101 here. Today, this is a brief um video on openoffice.org. Um, openoffice.org is actually an application that's um a Microsoft Office alternative. I don't like Microsoft, and I feel as though it's been taking over the world. So I encourage people, instead of paying $300 for Microsoft Office, get this free Open Office.

Um, so first of all, um, you want to download Open Office um and install it. I'll have a link to download in the description of this video. I already have it installed. Um, I'll open up Open Office. Apppp, and um, this is the current version, so it wants me to set it up. If you type your first name and your last name, oops, next. Okay, I'll just say I want to register later. Okay, and I'll click finish, and Open Office will open up.

So here's Open Office. Um, you can create a text document, presentation, database, formula, drawing, or your spreadsheet. I'll show you text document, and this is, um, in my eyes, um, much better than Microsoft Office. So here's its word processor. You can also view um several other toolbars; there are a bunch of toolbars. Um, I like just the standard toolbars, but you can add all the toolbars you want.

Um, you can create a new um HTML page or an HTML document to build your own website. You can export it to a Microsoft Office document. I'll just show you this. You want to export it, and you can export it as a PDF. But um, yeah, um, this will open PowerPoints and um, any word document you may have. Um, you can email as Microsoft Word, so you can email it to someone as a Microsoft Word document if your friends use Microsoft Word.

Um, so this is a very powerful word processor. It's not more powerful than um Microsoft Office, but um, I'd say it's about equal. Can also create a new presentation. Um, so I'll just start from an empty template, and then this is very wonderful. Um, this is like PowerPoint, of course. You can drag um nice stuff in there.

Um, most people, because Microsoft has managed to take over most of the world already, believe that the only way to make a Word document is with Microsoft Word. The only way to make a spreadsheet is um with Microsoft Excel. The most, the best way to make a presentation or a slideshow or whatever is PowerPoint. They think that's the only way to make a slideshow. Therefore, instead of ever calling it a presentation or a slideshow, they just call it a PowerPoint.

Drawing, that's just Open Office Draw. I'll show you that. Um, Microsoft Office doesn't have a nice feature like this. This is just kind of like a doodle thing; you can drag images into here, just use those. It's pretty cool. Um, Microsoft has basically led you to believe that their product was the only way to do this.

Um, but I knew there was another way, and um, here it is. So here's um a great Microsoft Office um alternative. You can, it can do everything Office for the Mac can do, plus of course it's free. So you don't need um Microsoft Office to do all your office stuff. This is just as good. If you, if Google Docs doesn't work for you, this is the way to go. This is just a great application for the Mac.

It's pretty big and it might take a long time to download, but you'll love it, and um, I love it. So um, yeah, thank you for watching. Mac, hit subscribe and goodbye...
