У более крупных капель больше соотношение веса к площади поверхности, поэтому выше равновесная скорость, и падают они быстрее. Дождевая капля диаметром 1 мм летит вниз со скоростью около 2 м/с, а капли с диаметром в 3 мм — со скоростью 6 м/с.

Из-за сопротивления воздуха капли дождя совсем не похожи на то, как их рисуют в мультфильмах. Это скорее такие шарики, слегка приплюснутые снизу, там, где на них давит воздух. Слишком большие капли растягиваются в стороны, выгибаются в центре, так что становится похоже на парашютики, а потом рассыпаются на капли поменьше.
