Гребневики плавают благодаря рядам ресничек, создавая потрясающие переливающиеся узоры. У них есть нервная система, которую они, похоже, изобрели самостоятельно, отдельно от остальных животных.

Глубоководные гребневики, те, которые живут на глубинах до 4 км под водой, сталкиваются с огромным давлением, в сотни раз превышающим привычное нам атмосферное. Одно недавно опубликованное исследование сказало, что причиной их удивительной стойкости к огромным давлениям стали их особые клеточные липидные мембраны. Включают в себя, как выяснилось по результатам анализа, множество специфических фосфолипидных молекул, называемых плазмогенами.
