Buying the New Tudor Black Bay Chrono 'Pink'
[Applause] [Music] Hey, Mr. Wonderful here, back in New York City, and one of my favorite watch stores in the world. This is the Meat Packing District, the Tudor Boutique. Tudor has come on my radar screen in the last 3 years as a maverick brand because I really care about entry-level. I want quality, I want style, I want uniqueness, and I love new materials, and Tudor is doing all of that.
But I'm here for a different reason this year at Watches and Wonders, which is the premier watch show in the world. I mean, this is where every brand comes out and shows their new stuff. It was a breakaway year for Tudor. Every day I went, standing room only in the Tudor Boutique. You couldn't move in there, and the buzz was going on about Black Bay and the new monochromatic.
But wait, there's something that just took the show: a pink dial Black Bay chronograph! Pink! Yes, I said pink! But I knew it was going to be a smoking hot piece, and it's beyond that. It's beyond smoking hot. I mean, this piece, this chronograph, is under $6,000. Now, if we can find more watches like that, I can get people a little happier with me, 'cause you know my feelings get hurt when people call me rich. I'm proud of what I've achieved, but I also want to help you get into the watch space. I want you to get the same disease I have. I started buying watches when I could barely afford them for a few thousand bucks, and I still have them today. By the way, they're worth a lot more than they were back then.
This is your chance to look at a brand that is loaded with fantastic offerings at an affordable price. Let's go into the Tudor Boutique, let's check it out, let's see this big pink story. Now, I'm wearing a couple of pieces today just to get ready to go in there. They are not Tudors, but I'll be taking these off. A Tiffany 727, I call it, launching the new store, and an AP made about 5 or 6 years ago, of which they only made 100, just sparkling in the New York sun.
Let's go in now, let's check it out, let's find out what Tudor's all about. Let's explore this new option. We're going into the pink. [Music] [Music]
Ah, Tudor! One of my favorite boutiques. I love the space. Hi there! Welcome, Mr. Oi!
Hey, how are you?
Good! I'm Tyler.
Tyler, nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you, Kevin. I'm hearing a lot about a new pink watch.
Yes, that's why I came! Very exciting!
Yeah, I bet! I hope you have one here.
Yes, we have one here. Otherwise, I'm going right back out the door!
All right, let's go check it out!
Yes, please! Now let me say a few words about this piece first in Geneva. Yes, there were a couple of watches at the show that really, really got the attention of the press. Yes, 'cause the first couple of days were industry only, and I heard about it first before I even got to the pavilion, and they said, "You got to go check out Tudor. They've got this crazy pink dial."
This is a classic Black Bay chronograph.
Yes, but you have never done a pink dial.
Correct.
Yes. How'd that happen?
So pink really has to go back to our ambassador, so there's really kind of three storytelling elements regarding this pink dial. So one of them goes to JCH, and J's signature color is really pink. And that's one of the reasons we did a pink dial, and it really embodies our daring spirit at Tudor.
Another is David Beckham. He wanted the Inter Miami team to stand out on the field. That is their color, is it not?
Yes, uhhuh!
So he wanted them to stand out on the field, and that's why he did the pink jerseys for the Inter Miami team. And of course, we have the Giro d'Italia, and the winner of the Giro d'Italia wears the pink jersey, and he is always proud to wear that pink jersey because he is the leader.
And really, those three storytelling elements make up why we used this color pink on our dials. Now let's talk about the heritage of this piece because this is a very affordable, high-quality piece.
Yes, so we're talking way under $10,000 here.
Yes, which for me is an affordability land. The price on this is around $6,000, is it not?
Correct. Yes, that's what the buzz show $6,000 for a lifetime piece for sure.
Okay, enough! I want to see it!
Yes, let's take a look!
All [Laughter] right! Amazing, right? It's incredible! Just like you said, a pink that pops! I mean, you know, the thing is, the digital images don't do this justice.
Yeah, it's so much better in person, and it's a pink that you can see really from a mile away. That is stunning! That is beautiful! I'm assuming this is a 41?
This is a 41 mm. Yes, me measured from 10 to 4, not including the pushers.
That is absolutely stunning! Incredible! It's got a beautiful weight to it. Of course, I’m going to need a red band for this because I really want to wear this on Shark Tank, but it's going to work with pink and black.
It's going to absolutely work, especially because there's a little hint of red on the dial, so you can actually see it in the chronograph second and in the lettering on the dial as well. We see it in red; that was made for Mr. Wonderful, there's no question about it.
I mean, this is just beautiful! While I'm just gorging my eyes on this thing, there was another piece at the show that everybody was talking about, which has to be probably the most popular of the show for you.
It was the monochromatic, right?
I mean, it's the essence of what the Tudor brand is about, and I want to see that piece because, oh, that is going to be just—what's the price point on this?
Price point on this is going to be mid $4,000.
Even more affordable?
Yes, mhm!
So what we have here is going to be our new 41mm monochromatic Black Bay. It's going to be a master chronometer, METAS certified caliber, a caliber that we started producing all the way back in 2021.
Yeah, and this is really now ushering in the third generation of our Black Bay series. We saw last year, of course, so you up the caliber, is what you're saying?
Yeah, so we went from a manufacture caliber from Tudor in our second generation to a METAS caliber now in our third generation.
I'm glad I found this at the show because, from now on, the more I work with you, a third of my effort is going to be trying to find that first watch for you. 30% of the time, I'm going to show you stuff that I would buy and will buy because I'm proud of the dial.
It doesn't have to be about the money; it has to be about the dial, the heritage, the look, the fashion, how it fits. This is smoking hot; it's going to work with a tuxedo or a t-shirt; doesn't matter, and it's Tudor! You guys are killing it; you're just killing it!
And I got to call you out for it! I mean, you know you're killing it because you got great management, you got great vision, you got great design, you got great dials, and you're affordable!
Okay, this goes onto the list of Mr. Wonderful's empty-level affordable watches that you'll be proud of the rest of your life. Remember, never borrow money to buy a watch, but get something you're going to be proud of 20 years from now, 'cause you will be proud of 20 years from now if you like it today. That's the key, right?
Yeah, I'm totally hooked on the brand. I love it! And I tell a lot of people out on the street just now, "I want to buy my first watch—what should I get?" I say, "Walk in this store and look at all the offers."
Yeah, you can find something at your price point you're going to be very proud of, and this is definitely one of them!
Yes, it's a big hit, and it's going to be a great watch for us. So we can talk about the inside. So this is the MT5813 caliber, it's a 6C deviation with a silicon balance spring, so it's going to be an anti-magnetic timepiece.
And the rotor, which is going to wind the watch on the back, is actually made out of tungsten, and tungsten's a very dense material, a very heavy material, so it optimizes the winding while it's on the wrist.
It actually has a nice weight to it; it's very wearable; it's a beautiful, beautiful piece. Yeah, I applaud you! I mean, it takes time to do that, but it also takes incredible imagination.
At the end, for me as a dial guy, you need crazy dials! What watch is all about? Crazy dials! I do not have anything like this in my collection, and I got a big one, and so this is important because it's something different and new.
Yes, I'll be walking around this in Miami.
Am I going to be able to get anything red to wear with this on the tank?
So I'm sure that we're going to—you have a big, obviously a big red band collection for your watches now. I'm sure you're going to find the perfect band for it.
You know, we have a red band to show. Can we have a look at it just to see what it looks like?
Yeah, thank you! So let's have a look at a Tudor Factory Red Band, right?
Yeah, so that's a good solution. I mean, it's a strap; it can go on. Very often what I'll do is I will wear some watches offset. Do not have red bands—not often—but I want that option.
So when I'm picking the piece up as I am today, and by the way, I buy my pieces. I don't want Tudor to give me anything; you're not giving this to me; I'm buying it, correct?
That's fair; that's how it should be. You want to support horology, and what I love about this band too is it has that red, but it also has the black stitching in it to bring out the colors of the bezel and the sub-dials as well.
Yeah, it's nice; it's a good idea, and it's factory. Some people are sticklers about always not bastardizing a watch with non-factory elements to it, including bands and clasps.
Depends how much of a stickler you are, but that's just the way the hobby is in some ways. I shouldn't call it the hobby; it's the obsession; it's the disease.
And one of the cool things you'll notice about this band is it actually has the top of the shield logo in the clasp, as you which is a fun little Easter egg. We like to point out at Tudor when talking about our fabric straps.
Fabric straps are great for when they get wet or, you know, in the summer when it's really hot, and these fabric straps are woven in France actually by a manufacturer called Julien 4. He weaves all of our fabric straps on all of our watches, especially all of our Black Bays that we see here.
We're going to have a screw-down crown. It's really one of our principles—200 ft.
How deep is this?
Yeah, 200 m.
For this meter? Yes, that's like I go down 200 m. You know, so you might ask what is the pink watch—the Black Bay pink going to look like on a red band? Well, let's have a look!
I'm telling you right now, I never get this wrong; it's going to look spectacular! And you bet it does! I mean, are you kidding? Everybody's going to want it on this band.
I'm not saying the steel's not great, but look at that! That's a statement; it's a—oh, it's a marriage right there.
Oh, that looks ridiculously fantastic! I can't believe how good I am at this! I mean, you know, are you kidding? I look spectacular!
Of course, this goes in the collection! It looks amazing! Red bands; it's the key to success! That is absolutely spectacular!
Oh, I just love it! I can tell you right now when I walk out that door, grown men are going to weep! You got to see it in person; it just is beautiful! It really, really pops, and I've taken it to a level 'cause I put a red band on it.
It was 10; now it's 11! Get a red band! It's an option! Tudor has really enjoyed today; that was a lot of fun.
Thank you so much, Mr. Kevin!
Oh, what's that? This is your special pink Black Bay chronograph!
Oh, the one I'm already wearing on my wrist?
Yes, uhhuh! Remember, you got to keep your box; it's 30% of the value down the road! Always have your box in a safe place with all your papers, but enjoy your watch as I am right now!
