"Listener's Judo" as a skill goes beyond active listening. #shorts

Type of listening I practice as I teach is really kind of beyond active listening all by itself. We even sort of refer to it sometimes as listeners' judo because we're listening very carefully for certain things.

We're listening for different aspects of what people care about and what they're against. At the same time, people will reveal the negatives very much, either between the lines, a little bit of the adjectives, and then also in every positive, there's a flip side negative.

Every negative, there's a flip side positive. If I make it a point of talking about how I'm for integrity, then if you're making it a point to state that, then you've been betrayed in the past. That's been a problem for you in the past.

There's a yin and yang to everything. As soon as you realize that there's a negative to every positive and a positive to every negative, and you're listening for it, you can kind of pick out how you want to guide a discussion, knowing that those are the things that you're looking for.

We are told a pig runs rightward 20 meters to eat a juicy apple. It then walks leftward 5 meters to eat a nut. Finally, it walks leftward another 25 meters to eat another nut. The total time taken by the pig was 300 seconds. What was the pig’s average vel…

In this video, we’re going to get even more appreciation for why the periodic table of elements is so useful. In particular, we’re going to focus on groups of the periodic table of elements. When we talk about a group, we’re just talking about a column. A…

What we’re going to do in this video is discuss the difference between normative statements and positive statements, and you’ll see these words used usually in an economic context, sometimes a philosophical one. A normative statement is one that really i…

Consider the table with function values for ( f(x) = \frac{x^2}{1 - \cos x} ) at positive ( x ) values near zero. Notice that there is one missing value in the table; this is the missing one right here. Use a calculator to evaluate ( f(x) ) at ( x = 0.1 )…
Lagrange multipliers, using tangency to solve constrained optimization
In the last video, I introduced a constrained optimization problem where we were trying to maximize this function f of x y equals x squared times y, but subject to a constraint that your values of x and y have to satisfy x squared plus y squared equals on…

We’ve got a surprise in store for our competitors. Our cognitive challenges were missing one critical element of survival situations: stress. What you’re going to do is you’re going to go up the stairs and just follow the path over to that plank. God, ok…
