Macbook Pro Update 2/24/2011

Hey guys, this is Maids 101, and today I'm going to be talking to you about the new line MacBook Pros that Apple introduced today. Now, today was the first time ever that Apple has included quad core CPUs into their netbooks. So basically, that means that, um, basically, uh, all processors have like a certain amount of cores.

So right now, my laptop has two; two cores, it's dual core. Uh, and the Mac Pros, they can be up to quad core, and, um, actually, I think they can have more than four cores. Anyways, this is the first time that, uh, Apple has ever put quad core into a netbook. So basically, that just means a lot faster processors.

In addition to that, um, um, by the way, that's just for the 15 and for the 17-inch MacBook Pros. But I'm pretty sure all the processors use Intel's turbo boost technology, which will increase the speed of your processor. Also, um, in addition to that, if you're talking about fast speeds, then there's nothing else that, uh, is more related than the New Port, uh, the Thunderbolt Port.

I'm pretty sure Intel, um, made this, and uh, it's supposed to be, uh, 10 gigabits per second. And one byte is equal to 8 bits, so that's like one and a quarter gigabytes per second, I think. And so if you've ever downloaded a song from like iTunes or something, let's say it's 5 megabytes, it takes 30 seconds to download, and it's approximately, uh, five minutes long, right?

So, um, that's pretty fast, right? But if you wanted to use this uh, New Port, this new kind of cable to um, download a song, um, like they said that a one-year song, like a song that lasted one year, an MP3 file that was one year long, um, would take 30 minutes, just over 30 minutes to transfer. And not only that, but you can transfer both directions at once. You can upload and download.

So, this is supposed to be like 20 times faster than USB 2.0, which is the standard USB that, um, comes on a Mac, and it's like twice as fast as USB 3.0. So, pretty much that's probably why Apple said, "Yeah, we're not going to be using USB 3.0." People are like, "What?" But yeah, it's probably just 'cause they knew that this was coming out soon.

Anyways, um, also I, when I was looking at it, when you want to check out to buy a 15-inch MacBook Pro, they also give you the option to buy an HD uh, monitor for your MacBook Pro that the monitor is actually attached to it. So your screen can be, um, um, well, technically the other one's also HD, 'cause HD just means over um, 720.

But anyways, they have a higher definition screen that you can pay like $100, $150 more for. So instead of being 1440 by 900, it would be 1680 by uh, 1050.

Anyways, so that pretty much covers the new MacBook Pros. Um, they're the same price as before: 13 in is $11.99, 15 in is $17.99, and the 17 in is $24.99. Again, if you want the quad core, you have to get 15 or 17 inch, but um, all of the MacBook Pros have the new Thunderbolt Port.

So if you have any questions, just comment, and I'll be more than happy to respond to it. And, uh, this is basically a more, this is just a brief overview of the new MacBook Pros. For more information on them, just go to apple.com. Thank you for watching.
