My Asian Non Sponsored Skincare Routine
Hi guys, it's me Jody! Today I'm back with another video. Today I'm going to be showing you guys my morning and nighttime skincare routine. But before starting the video, I want to clear out something, and that is, I think skincare is something supplementary. As Tomoru, who is a Japanese dermatologist and also one of my favorite YouTubers, says that skincare is something supplementary.
So, if you are having a problem with your skin, visit a dermatologist and do whatever they say. I've been struggling with acne for about eight years. I'm currently on a drug called Accutane, or Roaccutane, which is a pretty intense and serious drug used for acne prescribed by a dermatologist. I'm currently on my fourth month, and I have like fourth, fifth, and sixth—so three months left to finish my intake. My skin has cleared so freaking much!
So, the main thing that cleared my skin is not my skincare, but it's the drug because I had acne due to stress. The thing that cleared my skin is Accutane, not skincare. Skincare is supplementary. So, you might ask, why are you doing this extensive skincare routine? Because skincare is something supplementary, and if you’re on Accutane, your skin is going to be super sensitive and super dry. So my skincare routine is dedicated to moisturizing my skin but not irritating it.
And if you actually come closer, you can see the acne scars that I have. It used to be much, much worse. You guys have been asking me if I got lip fillers, and you guys said that I look awful. Firstly, excuse me! My lips are very crusty and dry, which is a side effect of Accutane, and I use lip balms all the time throughout the day. It makes them look so shiny like this, and I don't know why, but you guys thought that I got lip fillers. I don't have anything against plastic surgery, but I personally don't love the look of lip fillers.
If you guys want, I can do a whole dedicated video about Accutane. I'm actually currently waiting to finish my Accutane intake, but if you guys want that video, I can film it right now as well. It's up to you!
Anyways, let's get started with the video. Okay, so let's get started! I'm going to be showing you guys my morning and nighttime skincare routine because they're a little bit different from each other. I'll start with my morning routine.
I'm currently using this Super VeggieTox Cleanser. This is from a Korean brand called Wonder Bath; it's a bubble cleanser. So, when you put it on your face, it kind of gets bubbly by itself, which I find pretty fancy. I've been using this; I don't think this is something special, but I always wanted to try it. It says that it is suitable for sensitive skin, and because of the Accutane, I have pretty sensitive skin.
So, I'm currently using that. I'm not sure if I’d get this again, but this is like a pretty good cleanser. Would I recommend it? Maybe not, but it's fancy! So, I wash my face with that, and as you can see, it gets bubbly like this by itself, and I gently cleanse my face.
After washing my face, now it's time to do the rest of my skincare routine. I'm currently using this Camellia oil, which is like Tsubaki oil in Japanese. It makes your skin so soft, and it really moisturizes your skin. Japanese women have been using this oil for more than 100 years for their skin, hair, and body—you can use it everywhere. I got it from Japan; this was a gift, but I'm in love with this product! Literally, it makes my skin so soft, and it really moisturizes my skin.
And because of the Accutane, my skin is hella dry, but after using this, my skin is no longer dry. You might think, "Are you applying oil before toner?" Yes, it says to apply before the toner, so I'm doing that.
So, the next step is this one from Ipsa called Time Aqua Toner. This is their best-selling toner, and every single dermatologist in Japan who has a YouTube recommends this product. This is good for acne scars, acne sunburn marks, moisturization, and a lot of good stuff. It's pretty expensive, but literally, every single dermatologist in Japan, like Tomori Arata, recommends this, so I got this, and they say that it’s worth it.
I literally can feel that my skin is getting moisturized from the inside when I use this product. When I don't use this product on my skin, my skin gets really flaky, and my makeup doesn't really seem good. So, this is like one of the key products when it comes to my skincare.
After applying toner, now it's time to moisturize my face. This is again from Ipsa. Ipsa is my favorite Japanese skincare brand because they do skincare tests using their skincare—kind of like a robot eating—and they analyze your skin and recommend the products that are suitable for it. They have like 16 different moisturizers, and you can choose from them.
This is the only moisturizer that doesn't make my skin sticky or that greasy oiliness. I just don't love other moisturizers. This is the Ipsa ME E Sensitive E2. I really love this moisturizer. It says actually to use three pumps of the product applied with cotton, but I'm a bad girl, so I just take one push. I just apply one pump with my hand.
And now it's time to apply some sunscreen. If you're not applying sunscreen, what the hell are you doing? Not because I'm using Accutane, but applying sunscreen is one of the best things that you can ever do for your skin. So, I'm applying this, and there is a two-finger rule when it comes to sunscreen. A lot of people apply very little amounts of sunscreen, and I watched a dermatologist—I don't remember the dermatologist's name—but she was saying like the two-finger rule.
So, ever since, I'm doing that! This one is from Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence. I don't know what it does mean, but this is from Skin Aqua, which is a Japanese brand. I normally get my skincare from Japan because Asians are on a whole another level when it comes to skincare. Also, Japanese skincare suits me very well.
I'm also looking for Turkish skincare brands, so if you guys know any Turkish skincare brands, recommend me, please! Because I would like to use Turkish ones as well. I mean, it might suit my skin better, so I cannot figure out if my skin is more Japanese or Turkish. By the way, every ethnicity has a different type of skin, explains Tomoru. I will link the video where she talks about that.
And the last step is applying a lip balm because my lips are so dry. It's a side effect of Accutane, and I'm using this long-age lip masky thing. I don't really love it; it doesn't moisturize as well as Ballistics Nighttime Lip Balm, but I'm using it because I got it.
And that’s it for my morning skincare routine!
Now, let's move on to the nighttime skincare routine. When it comes to the nighttime skincare routine, I firstly cleanse my face with the Vanilla Co Cleansing Balm, the purifying one. I use this for removing my sunscreen because I apply a lot of sunscreen. After using that, I cleanse—I use another cleanser because double cleansing is good.
The second cleanser that I use is the same as the morning. After cleansing my face, like in the morning, I use this Camellia oil to moisturize my face. After using that, I tone my face with the Ipsa again, the same one. Now I use Tamanu oil, which I got from a Turkish online site called Trendy. There is nothing special about this Tamanu oil.
The next step is the moisturizer again from Ipsa, and I apply it with my hands to my face. The last step is again from Ipsa; this is an Ipsa Barrier Serum. This is supposed to make your moisturizer more absorbed by your skin. I'm not really sure about its effect, but it’s kind of a nighttime skincare thing.
But it does take the oiliness of the skin from the skincare, like when you apply a lot of skincare, it makes your skin a little bit greasy, right? So, it just takes that greasiness and makes your skin super soft. I don't know how many times I said it makes your skin soft, but it literally makes your skin soft!
So, yeah, that was my nighttime skincare routine. The difference was the cleansing balm and then the nighttime kind of like pack, nighttime cream thing, and also the serum. Yup!
