Давайте взглянем на новое изображение чёрной дыры в центре нашей галактики. Искушённый зрители сразу заметят отличие от предыдущего изображения, опубликованного 2 года назад. Стрелец А со звёздочкой — это супер массивная чёрная дыра в центре Млечного Пути нашей галактики. Пусть Стрелец А со звёздочкой гораздо меньше дыры в центре Галактики M87, чьё изображение стало вообще первым в истории.

Но обе эти чёрные дыры весьма похожи. Новое изображение Стрельца получено, ну как обычно, при помощи телескопа горизонта событий, но сделана в поляризованном свете. Свет — это поперечная волна, движение, и сгиб волны может происходить в разных ориентациях, плоскостях.

Когда в волне преобладает определённое направление колебаний, то это и есть поляризация. Для человеческого глаза такой свет не отличим от обычного. В плазме вокруг чёрных дыр частицы, вращающиеся вокруг магнитных полей, влияют на поляризацию исходящего света, что и позволяет увидеть магнитные поля вокруг края чёрной дыры.
