Разрешение — важнейшая характеристика астрономического инструмента. Это показатель того, насколько маленькие угловые размеры объекта мы можем регистрировать с нашими приёмниками. Вот перед вами сейчас формула углового разрешения, из которой видно, что угловое разрешение зависит от диаметра апертуры линейно. Чем больше зеркало, чем больше антенна, тем меньшие детали угловые мы можем ловить.

Ну и, кроме того, разрешение зависит от длины волны. На длинных волнах разрешение получается плохое: угловой размер вашей детали будет большим. На коротких волнах легче получать маленькие детали. Поэтому в оптике гораздо обычно меньше детали удаётся разглядеть, чем в радиодиапазоне, где длина волны сантиметры, а то и метры.
