Это доска Гальтона. На ней есть ряды штырьков, которые образуют треугольник. К этому прилагается около 6000 шариков, которые можно засыпать сверху, налета на штырёк. Каждый шарик с пятидесяти процентной вероятностью сворачивает налево или направо.

Каждый шарик проходит от верха до низа по случайному маршруту. Predсказать путь отдельного шарика — задача невозможная. Но что будет, если перевернуть доску?

Внизу шарики всегда распределяются похожим образом. Сумма их случайных блужданий выглядит как нормальное распределение. В середине шариков больше всего, потому что именно сюда приведёт больше всего случайных дорожек.

Чем ближе к краю, тем их становится меньше, ведь чтобы прийти сюда, шарику надо постоянно отскакивать путь. А к середине ведут тысячи возможных вариантов. [музыка]
