Взрыв сверхновой — это конец жизненного цикла для звёзд, крупнее солнца в восемь раз или больше. Топливо в ядре кончается, и звезда обрушивается сама на себя. Вещество падает на ядро, а затем разлетается с мощным взрывом.

По яркости сверхновые могут не уступать галактикам. И что важно, происходит всё это по известному сценарию: несколько недель сияние усиливается, затем постепенно на протяжении месяцев тухнет. Сверхновая — явление редкое.

Типичные Галактики насчитывающие около 100 млрд звёзд, за один век наблюдается всего два таких взрыва. Вот и попробуйте угадать, какой звездой это случится.
