When I told my parents that I was visiting, the first thing they thought of was Afghanistan. It's close to the border; watch out! I think because people don't know a lot about it, they don't know a lot about the culture, what's there, and people are scared of the unknown.

It's very poor, and I think it's very real. People are very friendly; everybody who I meet always wants to give me some food. They ask me if I want some water. So, it's like an everyday adventure. It's very different from how I live my life.

I think that we view this area as being dangerous just due to a lack of knowledge, generally for this part of the world, and that stops people from wanting to come here. They're living with nothing; they're living with the basics, but they're so happy.

I recommend people come here for natural beauty, for an authentic feel. Everybody sees each other as equal.
