Вы знаете, все что такое гравитационная линза. Значит, когда у нас есть на переднем плане объект большой массы, он служит гравитационной линзой, искривляется пространство так, что находящийся за ним, случайно, если такой есть, находящийся за ним объект, он образует такие боковые усиленные изображения, правда, деформированные по краям этого гравитационного поля.

Вот таких гравитационных линз нам известно много. В частности, есть такая специальная конфигурация, которая называется рест Эйнштейна, когда симметрично очень расположена масса в этой гравитационной щели. И получается четыре сфокусированных объекта, такая крестообразная картинка. Каждое изображение — это изображение одного и того же объекта, расположенного далеко за гравитационной линзой. Так вот.
