Она состоит, во-первых, из решётки оптических телескопов, которые ловят не само гамма-излучение, а вторичное, так называемое черенковское излучение, возникающее в атмосфере под воздействием гамма-излучения.

Используется ещё и другой приёмник: это колоссального объёма ёмкость с жидкостью, вообще-то просто с водой. Такие как бы гигантские бассейны, самый большой из которых имеет ёмкость в 100.000 тонн.

В них вторичные частицы тоже порождают черенковское излучение, которое регистрируется фотоэлементами, вмонтированными в стены и пол этих ёмкостей. Вот такие гигантские телескопы, гамма-телескопы, можно сказать, телескопы черенковского излучения, и регистрируют гамма-излучение, возникающее в тех же странах, что и космические частицы.
