Возможно, что Земля образовалась гораздо быстрее, чем мы считали ранее, но всё ещё не за 6 дней. Ранее считалось, что Земля сформировалась примерно за 100 млн лет, а вода попала на неё благодаря случайным столкновениям с водосодержащими астероидами и кометами.

Новая гипотеза говорит, что в диске вокруг молодого Солнца — протозвезды, как только у планетного зародыша наберётся некоторая критическая масса, протопланета начинает расти очень быстро, причем собирая как миллиметровые пылевые частицы, так и ледяные частицы.
