Наконец-то полностью завершено создание самой крупной цифровой камеры в истории. Это 3,2 гигапиксель цифровая камера, создание которой длилось 20 лет. В ближайшее время будет установлена на будущем большом обзорном телескопе обсерватории Веры Рубин в Чили, на пике Эль Пиньон, горы Серро Пачо.

Этот событий может быть очень быстрой. Сама же камера весит примерно 3 тонны. Её передняя линза имеет рекордный диаметр в 1,5 метра. Одна из внутренних линз вместе с матрицей заключена в криостат с температурой в -1° C.

Матрица состоит из 2011 сенсора и настолько гладкая, что перепад высоты на всей поверхности не превышает десятой доли толщины человеческого волоса. Пиксели имеют размер всего 10 МКМ.
