В этой пластинке около 6 млн канальчик. Они расположены под углом примерно 5°, чтобы электроны врезались в стенки, из которых при этом высвобождаются новые электроны. Эти электроны снова врезаются в стенки стеклянных трубок, и так образуется целая лавина частиц. Даже если на входе было совсем мало электронов, на выходе их будут тысячи.

Этот поток извергается из трубок и, вновь разгоняясь за счёт напряжения, летит по прямой, врезается в люминесцентный экран, покрытый люминофором — веществом, которое светится под воздействием излучения. Кинетическая энергия электронов на нём преобразуется в фотоны видимого света. Получается, что поток фотонов без заметных искажений усиливается в тысячи раз, и на выходе мы видим то же изображение, но светлее.

Наконец, дело доходит до 20 млн оптических волокон, прикреплённых к экрану. Они переворачивают картинку в нужное положение.
