Оказывается, изменить восприятие того, насколько человек привлекателен в целом, не очень сложно. Стимуляция мозга буквально током. Учёные решили проверить: а что если прокачать часть мозга, отвечающую за уверенность и самосознание? Станем ли мы внезапно красивее в глазах окружающих?

Для эксперимента пригласили 10 добровольцев. Сначала на их мозг воздействовали через неинвазивный интерфейс, ускоряя или замедляя активность медиальной фронтальной коры. По сути, эта зона в мозге отвечает за то, как мы сами себя воспринимаем. Затем участников сфотографировали, и группе из 400 человек предложили оценить эти фотографии по принципу: а кто тут самый обаятельный и привлекательный?

Когда активность мозга замедляли, добровольцы людям со стороны начинали казаться более привлекательными. А если её ускоряли, то было всё наоборот: привлекательность снижалась. Самое удивительное, что сами участники не ощущали никаких изменений. Изменения в мозге есть, но ты не знаешь, что именно они делают.
