Campbell Addy creates Decolonise My Tongue with Love | Photographer | National Geographic
I Love Campbell, the exhibition, and the video is about the first time people fell in love. I'm really excited. I've never done a film, any video footage here in Ghana.
Right, Fidel. Yeah. Wait one sec, can we get the Bolex? I wanna try something.
Hello, I'm Campbell. Do you know what we're doing today? No idea? Perfect. We're going to be doing a sound experiment. I'm basically asking everyone today to express the first time you fell in love.
But only in sounds. And your love doesn't have to be romantic. It could be platonic. It could be anything. So you're going to be looking straight to the camera. You give your all to it. And don't forget, sound can travel through your body as well.
So, you can move with your body when you say it. You can be really stiff with your body. Just try to be present in the feeling. Yeah? So, when it's creating those nice... Okay. Mm. Keep going for me. Just keep going for me. Ooh. Ay! Ah.
People do not have to know I'm Ghanaian to know that this is part of an African community when they see the work. In its honest and truest form, my gaze as an artist is always going to be of love. So, I want them to see that.
I think today has reminded me how beautiful human beings are. Enjoyment! But I do feel a sense of accomplishment 'cause it's like, "Okay, video." That's literally the penultimate piece for the show. The last thing is a painting.
