Представьте себе красное съедобное насекомое. Увидев его, мы бы, может, решили, что оно ядовитое, и этот цвет предупреждает птиц, чтобы они его не ели. Но, возможно, что такой окрас нужен только для того, чтобы оказаться ближе к пауку. Скакунчик так у насекомых больше шансов сбежать.

А есть насекомые с красно-синим окрасом, который создаёт очень сложную для восприятия картинку. Паук теряется и гораздо дольше оценивает расстояние. В таких случаях важна даже доля секунды.

А теперь подумайте, что произойдёт, если паук вдруг научится отличать красный от зелёного. Обмануть его станет намного сложнее. Не исключено, что это и есть неожиданное преимущество, которое получают пауки с развитым цветовым зрением. Хотя дело совсем не в цвете.
