More iChat and Photobooth Effects

Hey guys, this is Matt from Kids 101, and I'm in Leopard. They introduced more video effects, originally in Tigard, when they introduced Photo Booth. They had the color effects and then they had the shape effects. But now in Leopard, they have two more pages. You can either have some of these built-in effects, or you can drag your own video or a picture.

Just to give you a look at how that works, I'm just going to take a picture of my desktop by doing the Macro, and then if I drag that in, it's just going to ask me to step out of the frame so it can detect where I am. This isn't a green screen, so it doesn't work perfectly, as you can see there. I have some parts, and if I go like that with my fingers, it doesn't work that well. But if I were in front of a green screen or if I were in front of a white wall, it would work a lot better than it works right now.

So, to show you some of the built-in ones, as you can see, this looks like I'm on a roller coaster. Sometimes you have people with like 10 different pages of effects. I recommend not getting more than that because each effect is actually a separate file. So when people open Photo Booth or iChat and go into the effects, it has to load a bunch of files. If you have more than a certain amount, it's going to take a while for it to load.

I remember I installed like a bunch of them manually and made my own, and it just took forever. Eventually, Photo Booth would just stop responding. So there is one package you can download online; I'm going to have a download for it in the description of the video. I already downloaded it right over here, so all you do is install this package, and it will give you tons more effects, and they are really cool effects.

It's a good amount; I recommend not installing more than that. Right now, four pages are going to give me like 10 pages, and my Photo Booth is perfectly fine. So first, I'm just going to delete the X; I don't need that. By the way, this package is going to be in the description of the video, so you can just download that by clicking the link.

I just opened that; it's going to ask me to continue. I'm going to say install for all users on this computer. By the way, this is free. It was asking what I wanted to install, and when it installs, it gives 48 effects, so that's tons of effects for iChat and Photo Booth.

Continue; it's just going to take 15 megabytes on your computer. That's not much; it's about like 15 songs. So I'm gonna say install now. It's going to ask you for an admin password. If you're not an admin, you have to do this, and if you own your computer and you don't have an admin password or you forgot it, you can watch a video on how to enable root on Leopard, getting admin access.

So I'm just going to type in my password, and it's going to write a couple files using scripts. Then, it will ask me if I want to donate, but I'm not going to donate right now, so I'm just going to close this.

Now, if I open up Photo Booth, as you can see, it works perfectly fine. If I click effects, I have 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 pages of effects, and they're wonderful effects. Just to give you a feel for some of the great effects that you're installing, hold on. It does take a tiny bit longer to load because you have a lot more effects, but it shouldn't be that much slower.

I'm going to show you these effects. I'm going to show you a couple of my personal favorites. So, I'm invisible in Hologram; those are some of my favorite effects. So I'm going to show you Hologram first. It didn't ask me to step out of the frame. Oh yeah, I didn't really step out of the frame in time, so it asked me to step out of the frame first.

First, shift up. I'm sorry about that; first, you have to go back to the original, and then I click on that. Okay, and now, as you can see, I'm a hologram. This one works pretty well. Another one is the invisible one; as you can see, I am NOT here, but I actually am. It just removed me.

So, another cool one is this; this is like the iPod commercials. These are really fun, and you can, if you have Leopard, show them to your friends in iChat. These are a bunch of really cool effects that you can add yourself.

Thank you for watching, Matt from Kids 101. Subscribe, and goodbye!
