Ну, вы знаете, что экзопланеты открываются в основном двумя способами.

Первый метод — это метод транзитов. Когда происходит микрозатмение материнской звезды невидимой планеты, она проходит на пути между наблюдателем и звездой.

Для нас происходит такое микрозатмение буквально на несколько сотых долей звёздной величины. Две звезды падает на несколько часов, и вот, если нам удаётся периодически получать такие затмения, мы можем быть уверены, что это планета.

По определённым параметрам этих затмений, в частности, по времени выхода и входа в затмение, можно оценить диаметр планеты.
