На выборах президента США в 2000 году основными соперниками были Эл Гор и Джордж Буш младший. На тот момент все штаты полагались на систему относительного большинства с одним победителем. Во Флориде Буш получил больше всех голосов, но с невероятно маленьким преимуществом — менее 600 голосов.

В бюллетене был ещё один кандидат — Ральф Нейдер. Он представлял зелёных и по взглядам был левее, как Гора, так и Буша. Нам необходимо активная гражданская позиция: богатые, бедные, средний класс — все должны выступить против личных интересов власти.

Он во Флориде получил почти 100.000 голосов. Не уверена, что могу с чистой совестью проголосовать за Буша или Гора, я отдам голос за Ральфа Нейдера. Большинство этих избирателей были раздосадованы: вместо Гора они фактически отдали победу Бушу. Нейдер оказался спойлером.
