Известно более полутора тысяч видов животных, от пингвинов до морских ежей и шимпанзе, представители которых вступают в однополые связи. Поэтому и интересно поведение, которое не очень-то помогает в репродукции, исследовать на этот счёт стали млекопитающих минимум 260 видов в 62 семейства. Это около 4% всех видов и половина всех семейств демонстрируют однополые связи.

Причём под ними подразумевается очень многое: от простого ухаживания до полового акта. После всех исследований вывод, учёные сделали такой: однополые сексуальные связи - это адаптивное поведение, которое нацелено на поддержание социальных отношений и уменьшение конфликтов, управления социальным напряжением.

Львы, например, таким образом убеждаются в верности, ведь им приходится полагаться друг на друга, чтобы защититься от общего врага. Наибольшее распространение однополые связи получили у тех видов, самцы которых более склонны уничтожать, убивать друг друга.
